Anant Nigam-India
Indian student Anant Nigam is taking advantage of the Leonardo da Vinci vocational training programme by spending a year on placement in Germany.
The 21 year old BSc (Hons) Sofware Engineering student, originally from Delhi, has just started working for Siemens, based in Augsburg, near Munich.
Anant studied the first year of his course at IILM College in his home country before moving to UCLan for the second year of his studies.
And because his course is a Sandwich course, Anant is encouraged to spend the third year of his course working in the Software Engineering industry.
Jumped at the chance
So when his placements tutor suggested going to Siemens, Anant jumped at the chance.
He said: "I chose to go to Siemens because it's such a renowned software company, where I will be doing programming, networking and updating for real.
"I'll gain first hand knowledge of how a real life software company works, and I hop that my personality will be developed by working with professionals too."
The Leonardo da Vinci Programme is the European Commission's vocational training programme which aims to facilitate student mobility throughout Europe.
It funds students' air fare, health insurance, and students are given 110 euros per week towards cost of accommodation.
Anant added: "It would not have been made possible if not for the help I received from UCLan's International Student Advice Team who helped me get my Visa for Germany, so I'd really like to thank the staff there."
