Bektemir Rahimov-Uzbekistan
As a researcher and lecturer in health promotion at Tashkent Medical Academy in Uzbekistan, Bektemir Rahimov was keen to increase his research opportunities.
And when he was searching for material for his research in healthy settings development and health promoting universities online, Bektemir found very useful and interesting material published by a staff member from UCLan.
"The University as a setting for Sustainable Health" written by Mark Dooris, the Director of Healthy Settings Development Unit at UCLan, caught Bektemir's eye, and he soon realised that as the University has very rich experience in health promotion, he would like to do some research here.
Bektemir said: "I wanted to do my research in health promotion with emphasis on healthy settings development, so I contacted Mark Dooris and I got an immediate positive reply inviting me to spend six weeks at UCLan."
The next step was to find financial support for his visit, so Bektemir applied for The Tempus Programme, where he won the financial aid for his research trip.
He said: "During my time at UCLan, I increased my knowledge in health promotion, health settings development, health communication and social marketing, and I met many professors and professionals in these fields.
"The wonderful UCLan Library, free access to Internet and friendly staff everywhere helped me a lot to do research here. I also enjoyed exploring places nearby, visiting Blackpool, Southport, the Lake District, Liverpool, and Manchester."
