Olga Papathanasiou-Greece
Olga Papathanasiou was worried that she'd find it hard to settle in when she first came to UCLan, but she soon felt at home when she joined the Greek Society.
The 23 year-old, from Larissa in northern Greece, said: "It was a little hard in the beginning because it was the first time that I had left home, but I joined the Greek Society and made lots of friends there.
"I met people who were in the same situation as me and who were from my country so it was good to know I wasn’t alone here."
Olga has just completed a Postgraduate Diploma in English for Masters Study. She said: "The proficiency certificate at UCLan is widely-recognised in Greece, and it gave me the opportunity to speak more English so I improved and developed my speaking skills."
"Before I began my course and throughout the year I had the support from both my tutors and the accommodation services, who offered me lots of information and provided me with everything I needed.
"And studying the course here is great because it's such a pleasant environment in which to learn."
Olga is taking up a post as Director of Studies at the Greek foreign Language Institute, but only after she has had a break after 9 months of hard work in Preston.
