UCLan is North West's top modern university

The Independent newspaper's Complete University Guide 2008 has confirmed UCLan as the top modern University in the North West.
In the first of this year's newspaper university league tables, UCLan continues to build on its impressive results from last year. Overall, the University has been ranked in 63rd position out of 113 institutions and ahead of all its North West rivals.
UCLan scored particularly well in some important key measures. In terms of student satisfaction the University was placed equal 15th nationally, equal 2nd amongst the 1992 universities and equal 2nd amongst North West universities.
In terms of graduate prospects, which measures success in careers on graduation, UCLan was placed equal 55th nationally, equal 8th amongst the 1992 universities and 4th in the North West.
And in terms of facilities spend, which measures the expenditure per student on staff and student facilities, UCLan was placed 37th nationally, 7th amongst the 1992 universities and 2nd in the North West.
In the individual subject tables American Studies was ranked in 8th position nationally while Communications and Media Studies achieved a national ranking of 13th.
University of Central Lancashire's Deputy Vice-Chancellor Alan Roff said: "These results confirm our position as the North West's leading modern University. And nationally, in the key measures of student satisfaction, graduate prospects and facilities spend, UCLan is a leading light.
"We are offering a quality educational experience which represents outstanding value for money. Our investments in facilities, teaching staff and quality, together with out strong focus on graduate employability have enabled us to enhance all aspects of student life," he said.
Meanwhile information released this week by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Services show UCLan applications for September 2008 up by 13 percent on last year while firm acceptances are up by 10 percent.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor added that interest in UCLan courses had been buoyant in a variety of subject areas.
"This year we have seen a surge of interest in courses related to business, sport and science. It's not too late to apply for 2008 entry but remaining places are being snapped up fast."
